A Strong Start for Every Child
At Tomorrow Vijana, a refugee-led organization, we believe that the foundation of every child’s future is built in the earliest years of life. In early 2026, through our Back-to-School Campaign in Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, something powerful happened — parents did not just ask us to support their children, they asked us to stay. They spoke about the impact they had already seen, the trust they had developed, and their desire for their children to continue learning in a safe and nurturing environment. It was from this moment that our Early Childhood Development (ECD) / School Readiness Program was born.
A Response Rooted in Community Need
What began as a response to a community need has quickly grown into a vibrant learning space now supporting over 120 refugee children. Every day, children walk into classrooms filled with energy, curiosity, and joy, spaces designed not just for learning, but for belonging. Within just a few weeks, parents began noticing remarkable changes: children speaking simple English, counting with confidence, singing songs, reciting rhymes, and expressing themselves in ways they had never done before. These are not just small milestones — they are the first building blocks of a lifelong learning journey.

Why Early Learning Matters Here?
In refugee settings like Rwamwanja, many children begin primary school without the foundational skills they need to succeed. The challenges of displacement often mean limited access to structured early learning, leaving children struggling to catch up once they enter formal education. This gap affects not only academic performance, but also confidence, social development, and long-term opportunity. At Tomorrow Vijana, we are intentionally working to change that story by providing children with a strong, supportive start before they transition into primary school.

More Than a Classroom
Our approach goes beyond traditional teaching. We have created child-friendly learning environments with attractive classroom designs, safe play spaces, and age-appropriate materials that encourage exploration and creativity. The presence of playful, dedicated, and skilled teachers ensures that every child feels seen, supported, and inspired. For many families, this kind of environment is new and it has become one of the most appreciated aspects of the program.
The People
Behind the Impact
At the heart of this program is a team of committed, passionate, and well-trained educators who bring learning to life every day. Our teachers are not only qualified and experienced in Early Childhood Development (ECDE), but also have practical experience working with refugee children and understanding the unique challenges they face. They regularly participate in refresher trainings and continuous learning to strengthen their skills and ensure quality teaching and child care.
More than instructors, they are caregivers, mentors, and role models who create a warm and supportive environment where every child feels safe, valued, and encouraged to grow. Their patience, energy, and dedication are at the core of the program’s success — turning daily classroom moments into meaningful learning experiences that shape each child’s future.

Learning That Builds Confidence
In our classrooms, learning happens through play, interaction, and guided discovery. Children are not only developing early literacy and numeracy skills, but also building confidence, communication, and social skills. They learn to express themselves, to collaborate, and to enjoy the process of learning. These early experiences are shaping how they will approach education for years to come.
Driven by Community, Supported by Trust
This program is deeply rooted in the community it serves. Parents are actively involved follow up on pupils progress, committed, and supportive, , contributing where they can, and continuously encouraging their children. Their trust and belief in the program have been a key driver of its success. As a refugee-led organization, Tomorrow Vijana understands the realities of the community and works closely with families to create solutions that are both practical, sustainable and impactful.
Looking Ahead
The early success of this program has shown what is possible when communities are empowered and supported. With growing enrollment and increasing demand, there is a clear opportunity to expand and to reach more children in the settlement, improve learning spaces, and strengthen the quality of early childhood education within the settlement. Our vision is to build a model ECD program that can be replicated and scaled across similar communities. Working together with teacher training colleges within the areas to allow student teachers do school practice in our well decorated classroom environment

Join Us in Building the Future
We believe that every child deserves a strong start, regardless of their background or circumstances. We are inviting partners, donors, and supporters to join us in expanding this work. With the right support, we can reach more children, strengthen our program, and create lasting impacts in the lives of young learners.
Together, we can build a future where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
